There is an acute housing shortage in the local area. There is huge demand for affordable housing and a local school. The Government said that provisions should be made in Hampshire for an average increase of 6,030 houses a year - more than in any other county in south-east England.
It should be noted that there are only a limited number of sites that could realistically be built upon on in Hampshire. The New Forest and Winchester's historical importance create obvious planning constraints. As such, most new developments will be focused around Fareham.
