If you have beautiful objects, of any description, you need some facility to help you to display them to their best advantage. Display Cases do just that. There are many different designs. Display cases are usually closed shelf type units with glass doors, and perhaps glass sides. They may have lighting fixtures to help your collection look its best. Some display cases are air-tight and you can use silica gel sachets to keep the air inside the cabinet dry and to protect your collection. If you have flags that you want to display to the full effect, you can purchase a shallow display case specially designed for flags, with a large glass panelled side-opening door on the front. Display cases can hold anything from Waterford Crystal to baseball caps, from cigarette cards to musical instruments. People collect all sorts of things, they just want some means of showing off their collection. When buying bulbs for your display case, especially for lead crystal displays, look for the clear bulbs, rather than the frosted ones. Clear bulbs give a less diffuse and more intense light to show cut glass to best advantage. Antique English display cases from the late 19th century are not difficult to find, because the Victorians were avid collectors of everything from teapots to china dolls. Display cases in shops may be refrigerated or freezers. These are designed to display pizzas or similar food products in an eye-catching way, and so ensure higher sales. Exhibition displays have different requirements. They have to be large, possibly with photographic backgrounds. They also have to be portable, so are usually very light and fold down easily These are often open shallow pockets or shelves designed to hold brochures on particular products.
